Offshore Series

This year as a new introduction to the club sailing calendar SHSC is launching its "Offshore Series". Encompassing Spinnaker and White Sail classes, races will have a slighty more offshore feel, racing around the majestic islands of Carbery's Hundred Isles.

This standalone series, which is not part of the summer league, will see 3 races in total over the summer months.

Club Sailing Captain Tony O'Brien commented - "During the off season we surveyed the club skippers on the current racing set up and any areas for improvement or change. It came back strongly that there was an appetite to reintroduce some white sail racing, to be inclusive and representative of the full make up of the club fleet. Many club members who prefer to white sail, usual turn up in strong numbers for our flag ship event Calves Week, in early August but the club offering in this area through out the rest of the summer was minimal. So as a way to reestablish white sailing and offer fun competitive racing for this cohort of boats, we will be running roughly 1 race a month over the summer, making it manageable for people to get back involved and if it is successful we might look at expanding this into the future. So we are hoping for a good turn out for the series"

Other amendments to the summer league will see the introduction of "2 Race Days" on some weekends, where the club racing will see two, shorter races on the same day. Keeping the fleet on a more compact course, insuring some close knit racing and some trills and spills!
